About this course
Each year, thousands of infants and children in the UK experience life-threatening emergencies, both in the community and in hospital settings. While cardiac arrest in children is less common than in adults, it is often preceded by respiratory failure or shock, making early recognition and timely intervention critical. With increasing complexity in paediatric healthcare, it is vital that healthcare professionals are confident and competent in delivering safe and effective paediatric resuscitation.
Pacemaker Academy’s Paediatric Intermediate Life Support (PILS) course is based on the gold-standard guidelines from the Resuscitation Council UK. The course equips participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills to recognise the deteriorating child, prevent cardiorespiratory arrest where possible, and manage paediatric cardiac and respiratory emergencies in a structured and systematic way as part of the wider clinical team.
Our training blends evidence-based teaching with hands-on, scenario-based simulations that reflect real-life paediatric emergencies. Led by experienced instructors, the course places strong emphasis on teamwork, communication, and human factors, ensuring participants leave with the confidence to apply their skills effectively when caring for critically unwell infants and children.

Participants must hold a recognised healthcare qualification or be enrolled in an accredited healthcare training programme. Final-year medical, nursing, or paramedic students may also be accepted where local arrangements allow.
